Funeral Planning in the Era of the Internet
I've been thinking about funerals since my dad's illness, my own included. Someone told me about some trappist monks in Dubuque, Iowa, I think, who make beautiful, reasonably priced caskets. I went on the website and wanted to order one, but later asked Carlos about it and he didn't like the idea of paying for it now. I guess he thinks it's too soon. He said he'd bookmark the website and I can keep my funeral requests in a file, which he promises to refer to. He asked in the course of conversation who I would like to write my eulogy. I thought a while, and I said "Leslie." Have you ever written a eulogy before? He asked if you knew me well enough, and I said I think that you know me well enough, but more importantly, you are a bold and witty writer. I don't want my funeral to be a dull affair. I'll put your e-mail in my funeral file, and if you feel up to it and are still alive when Carlos contacts you, well, at least you've been warned.
