The End of the War in Iraq: Thoughts the Next Day

I was going to watch Paul McCartney's The Real Buddy Holly Story last night, but I wrote instead. I even said to myself, don't sit down at that computer, because if you do, you won't get up. And that's just what happened! But the result was good.

I'm happy to write a lot about the war, and not be repetitive. Well okay, the positon is constant, but the points change. The war changes, as does Americans' discussion of it. That leads to fresh arguments. For example, I don't see a need to write about what we should be doing in Afghanistan any more. That opportunity, if not past, is clearly not on anyone's horizon. We do have an opportunity now, as opposition to the war increases, to press the case. The tipping point could be near.

All the best,

P.S. One of my correspondents wrote to point out how much my hatred of President Bush comes through in my articles. I replied that I don't hate Bush, but I am angry. I asked myself later, what exactly are you angry about? I'm angry that he would do this to our country. It's a revelation, in that I didn't know I loved my country so much. You often don't know how much you love something until someone despoils it. President Bush turned our country into something it was not before, and that's truly a cause for anger.
